Israel Says Preparing For 'Potential' Incoming Fire Following Iran Warning Over Beirut Published By, Last Updated: June 14, 2026, 20:22 IST Israel says it is preparing for possible retaliatory fire in the coming hours without specifying the expected source. Israeli forces gather at the site of a suspected shooting attack in the town of Tzur Yitzhak in central Israel. (AFP file photo) The Israeli military on Sunday said it was bracing for a possible retaliatory attack “in the coming hours" after carrying out a strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs earlier in the day, and following a warning by a senior Iranian military official that the attack would not go “unanswered". “Following the IDF strike in Beirut … the IDF is preparing for potential fire toward the territory of the state of Israel in the coming hours," the military said, without specifying the source of the expected attack or giving further details.
The alert came after Brigadier General Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy commander of Iran’s highest military command, warned of a response. According to Iranian state media and Defa Press news agency, he said: “Without a doubt, these crimes will not go unanswered." Israel said the attack was carried out in response to what it described as Hezbollah fire towards northern Israel. The Israeli military said three suspected Hezbollah drones struck northern Israel in separate incidents, causing no casualties.
Hezbollah, meanwhile, said it carried out several attacks on Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon, but did not claim any strikes on northern Israel. The latest escalation comes amid expectations that a US-Iran deal aimed at ending the war could be imminent. Iran has insisted that an end to the fighting in Lebanon is a key condition for any broader agreement with the US.
