Read Full Story The action-thriller franchise, based on author Robert Ludlum’s novels, includes five films and a spin-off television series, 2019’s short-lived Treadstone on the USA Network. The series began with 2002’s The Bourne Identity, helmed by Doug Liman and written by Tony Gilroy and William Blake Herron. The Bourne Identity follows a man who wakes up at sea, bullet-riddled, disoriented and unaware of his past, only to learn that he is a CIA assassin being hunted by his own peers after failing to complete his latest mission.
The first film was followed by The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), The Bourne Legacy (2012) and Jason Bourne (2016). Damon did not return for the fourth film, which introduced a new character played by Jeremy Renner. Matt will next be seen in director Christopher Nolan's Odyssey (2026). The film also features Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o and Charlize Theron in key roles. Matt had last featured in the Netflix action film The Rip (2026), alongside Ben Affleck.
