The Congress party has announced a job fair, the ‘Maha Rozgar Mela’, at the Talkatora Stadium here, on June 19, 2026, marking the birthday of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. Over 150 companies and institutions will participate, the party said. Addressing a press conference, Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government for failing to check the rising rate of unemployment.
Unemployment and examination paper leaks had reached record levels during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Chib alleged. More than 90 examination papers had been leaked, he claimed, criticising Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. While the Congress is not in power at the Centre and therefore cannot provide government jobs, the party was attempting to create employment opportunities for young people through engagement with the private sector, Mr. Chib said.
Candidates could register online through a QR code linked to the organisation’s website, Mr. Chib said. Offline registration would also be available, including at the venue on the day of the event. Jobseekers, from Class 10 pass to postgraduate degree holders, can participate, according to the organisers. Registration is free. Chib said participating companies would conduct interviews and issue offer letters to selected candidates. A helpline would be available for one month after the event to assist candidates.
Citing past events, Mr. Chib said around 18,000 candidates had registered for a similar fair in Delhi in 2025, and about 7,000 of them had secured jobs. An average placement rate of about 30% was achieved in Jaipur and Patna, he said.
