K. Aboobacker wins Mamburam Thangal Heritage Award
Arabic language researcher and author K. Aboobacker has been selected for the inaugural Mamburam Thangal Heritage Award instituted by the Mamburam Thangal Institute for Research
Arabic language researcher and author K. Aboobacker has been selected for the inaugural Mamburam Thangal Heritage Award instituted by the Mamburam Thangal Institute for Research and Heritage Studies (MTIRHS). He was chosen in recognition of his longstanding contributions to Arab-Malayalam language and literature and Mapila heritage studies.
The selection was made by a jury comprising K.S. Madhavan (Calicut University), M.H. Ilyas (Mahatma Gandhi University), Syed Ashraf Thangal (Mapila Heritage Library), and P.K. Mohammed Shareef (PSMO College, Tirurangadi). A native of Koduvally, Mr. Aboobacker studied at Government College, Kodanchery, Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode, and Kerala University, Thiruvananthapuram, where he earned a master’s degree in Malayalam.
He retired from teaching in 2022 and has published several research papers on Mapila heritage. His books include, The Complete Works of Moyinkutty Vaidyar, Annotated Bibliography of Arab-Malayalam, Ishal Tradition in Malayalam, Arab-Malayalam: Language, Literature and Music, Vaidyar’s World of Poesy, Biography of T. Ubaid, and Muslim Cultural Heritage.
Minister for Local Administration K.M. Shaji will present the award at the fourth Mamburam Thangal history seminar at Mamburam, Tirurangadi, on June 20, 2026. MTIRHS, based at Tirurangadi, is dedicated to Kerala cultural and heritage studies.
