The United States and Iran present conflicting claims regarding a potential peace agreement. The US administration expresses confidence that a framework agreement will be signed, proposing a sixty-day ceasefire extension to negotiate a broader nuclear deal. The US demands unimpeded access through the Strait of Hormuz, the removal or downgrading of enriched uranium under International Atomic Energy Agency supervision, and a commitment from Iran to never acquire nuclear weapons.
Conversely, Tehran denies that a deal will be signed immediately, citing unresolved issues. Iran demands a permanent end to the war across all fronts, the withdrawal of US combat troops from West Asia, and explicit recognition of its sovereignty. Furthermore, Tehran seeks the immediate lifting of the naval blockade, suspension of sanctions, access to frozen financial resources, and a substantial reconstruction package.
The US maintains that military options remain available if negotiations fail, while Iran insists future talks must focus on uranium enrichment, sanction relief, and economic reconstruction.
