A 27-year-old woman employed at the Palghar District Collector's Office was critically injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon in broad daylight in Maharashtra's Palghar city. Police have since arrested the accused, who allegedly attempted to take his own life while on the run. The victim, identified as Snehal Sawant, was attacked near the Gold Cinema area in Palghar at around 6.30 pm on Friday. According to police, the assailant repeatedly struck her on the neck and waist with a sharp weapon before fleeing the scene, triggering panic among local residents.
Read Full Story Sawant, who lived in a rented accommodation near the Gold Cinema complex, sustained severe injuries in the attack. She was initially rushed to Palghar Rural Hospital for emergency treatment and was later shifted to a private hospital in Boisar for advanced medical care due to the seriousness of her condition. Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh had earlier said that the motive behind the attack was under investigation. However, subsequent enquiries reportedly revealed that the accused, identified as Amol Mule, was known to the victim and that the case may be linked to a relationship dispute.
According to police sources, the two were allegedly involved in a romantic relationship, and tensions between them had escalated in recent days. Investigators suspect that the dispute culminated in the violent attack. TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE AFTER TRYING TO EVADE ARREST Following the incident, Mule allegedly attempted to evade arrest and made multiple efforts to end his life. Sources said he first tried to hang himself, but survived after the rope reportedly snapped. He then allegedly consumed poison in another suicide attempt. Meanwhile, police received information about a suspicious man sitting in the Varkhunti area of Palghar.
Acting on the tip-off, teams from the local police and the Local Crime Branch (LCB) rushed to the spot and detained the suspect. The accused was immediately taken to Palghar Rural Hospital for treatment. Doctors provided preliminary medical care and later declared his condition stable. Police have taken Mule into custody and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
