Read Full Story In a social media post on Sunday, the Indian Embassy in Muscat said, "The Embassy remains in close touch with family members of the Indian national Mr Nishanth Uirthanathan, who unfortunately lost his life due to medical conditions, crew members of the vessel and concerned authorities." It added, "Efforts are underway to facilitate the earliest possible disembarkation and repatriation of his mortal remains." The announcement came a day after the mission confirmed that Uirthanathan was aboard MT Celestial when he "passed away due to medical complications." Earlier on Saturday, the mission had confirmed that Uirthanathan was aboard MT Celestial when he "passed away due to medical complications." "The vessel is expected to berth soon at Duqm port," it had said.
The Embassy has extended its condolences to the sailor's family and stated that it has been in continuous contact with the ship's management company. The commercial vessel aboard which Uirthanathan died was stopped by the US Central Command last month. According to a US military statement, the action was taken as MT Celestial was suspected of attempting to violate the American blockade of the conflict-hit Strait of Hormuz.
However, the vessel was released after a search operation. Its crew was asked to alter its course. Ends (With inputs from PTI)
