A three-year-old cancer patient named Sarthak died at AIIMS Bhopal in December 2025 after allegedly receiving a fatal formalin injection. The toxic chemical, typically used to preserve lab samples, was administered into his IV drip by a nurse. Despite repeated objections from the child's father, the nurse proceeded with the injection, leading to the boy's death within minutes. Following a five-month internal inquiry by the hospital management, an FIR has been registered at the Barksadaya Police Station against two nurses, Madhubala and Anupama Gujarati.
Both accused have been suspended and terminated from their services but are currently absconding. The investigation highlighted severe lapses, questioning how a syringe marked with an 'F' containing formalin was left at the patient's bedside in an active treatment ward. Police are actively searching for the absconding nurses as the incident raises concerns over safety protocols at the medical institute.
