File pic/PTI With an aim to produce “focused" civil servants, the Patanjali Group, mentored by Yoga Guru Ramdev, has decided to enter the highly competitive civil services coaching sector. Ramdev announced the move on Saturday. Speaking in the presence of noted civil services coach and motivational speaker Avadh Ojha, Ramdev said the new venture, Patanjali IAS Academy, will be headed by Ojha. The academy intends to produce hundreds of IAS and IPS officers with a “strong value system". Located at the sprawling Patanjali campus near Haridwar, the academy will train hundreds of aspirants every year.
“Students who fail to clear the examination after training at coaching centres in Delhi and elsewhere are often left directionless. However, students of Patanjali IAS Academy will make both their families and the nation proud," Ramdev asserted in Haridwar. The yoga guru said that Patanjali aims to nurture future civil servants who can make a positive contribution to society. Ojha, whose brief political stint ended after he lost the Delhi assembly election on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket last year, said the Patanjali academy would be different from conventional coaching institutes. “The (Patanjali IAS Academy) campus environment will help reduce depression and anxiety among students. It will provide positive energy. The academy will have faculty comparable to the best coaching centres in Delhi," Ojha added. The Patanjali Group has diversified into several sectors over the years. Its FMCG business has remained in the spotlight and reportedly recorded a turnover of around Rs 40,000 crore in the financial year ending March 2026.
Apart from FMCG products, in July 2017, Ramdev entered the private security sector by announcing the launch of Parakram Suraksha Private Ltd. Later in 2018, Patanjali joined the apparel market with the launch of the brand name Patanjali Paridhan. With the latest foray into civil services coaching, Ramdev reiterated that the academy’s goal is to produce “good" civil servants. On the fee structure, he said those aspirants already registered with Patanjali University will have to pay less than Rs 1 lakh at the IAS coaching facility. Though the tuition fee will be a bit higher for outside students—around Rs 2.5 lakh. Besides, there will be attractive scholarships for the meritorious students ranging from 80 to 100 per cent. According to industry estimates, India’s civil services coaching market is valued at approximately Rs 3,000-4,000 crore.
