The 20th edition of SHABD-26, JSS Science and Technology University’s (JSS STU) annual art and literary festival, began on the university campus here on Saturday. The two-day festival, organised by the Editorial Board, the university’s art and literature club, was inaugurated at the Golden Jubilee Bhavan by noted writer and popular host of the Kannada quiz programme ‘Thatt Antha Heli’, N.
Someswara. Over the years, SHABD has emerged as one of the prominent art and literary festivals hosted by an engineering institution, providing a platform for creativity, cultural exchange, and literary expression. Vice-Chancellor A.N. Santosh Kumar, Registrar S.A. Dhanaraj, principal C. Nataraju, dean (Student Affairs and Alumni Engagement) M.N. Nagendra Prasad, and associate dean-academic (Publications) Vanishri Arun were present at the inaugural programme.
As a prelude to the festival, activities such as ‘bamboozled’ and ‘face painting’ were conducted and received an enthusiastic response from participants. SHABD-26 features a wide range of competitions in art, English literature, and Kannada literature. The art segment includes canvas swapping, T-shirt designing, and rangoli, while the literary section offers events such as quizzes and debates, among others.
The festival is open to participants of all age groups. Registration for all events is free, and spot registrations are being facilitated at the venue. The organisers have announced a total prize pool of ₹55,000 for the competitions. For more details, participants may contact the organisers through the festival’s Instagram handle, the.edboard.
