Five Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were killed and one co-pilot was injured after an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed at the Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam. The aircraft was returning from a routine sortie when it crashed on a ground patch inside the airbase premises, splitting into two parts and catching fire. The deceased include Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, and two Agniveers, U.
Khemaram Kumawat and U. Danish Alam. The lone surviving co-pilot is currently undergoing medical treatment. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences over the loss of lives. The Indian Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the crash, whether it was due to a technical glitch, bad weather, or other factors. The AN-32 fleet has been in service for over four decades and serves as a major transport aircraft for the forces.
