Sejal Pawar, an undergraduate MBBS student at Mumbai's civic-run KEM Hospital, has been sent on a 15-day leave and barred from entering the hostel and college campus days after her controversial male cadavers' remark during stand-up comedian Pranit More's show. Read Full Story In a statement, the KEM Hospital said a preliminary enquiry had established Pawar's presence in the video and that the remarks attributed to her were prima facie false and unacceptable. Following the findings, KEM authorities handed Pawar over to her family and directed her to stay away from all academic and extracurricular activities for the next 15 days. A five-member committee has been constituted to conduct a detailed probe into the matter. The panel has been asked to submit its report within seven days, based on which the institute is expected to take further action.
Earlier, Hospital Dean Dr Harish M Pathak said the comments were unacceptable, while Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde asserted that vulgarity and hateful comments in the name of entertainment would not be tolerated. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell registered a case against More, web developer Himanshu Jangra and others for allegedly disseminating "obscene and objectionable" content on social media. More and Jangra are at the centre of a controversy over remarks made during a comedy show in Gurugram that allegedly glorified coercion and non-consensual conduct towards a woman. The controversy began after Jangra recounted, during the show, a date when he spent Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani.
When the woman asked him to drop her home, Jangra said he sought sexual favours for the money he spent on the biryani. More was seen laughing at Jangra's comment. Both More and Jangra apologised after facing backlash on social media and the latter also deactivated his Instagram account. Ends (with inputs from PTI)
