Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Vetukuri Suryanarayana Raju on Saturday (June 13, 2026) urged parents not to allow their children to use social media platforms since their minds will get disturbed with availability of unproductive content in those platforms. Speaking to The Hindu in Vizianagaram, he said the Commission recommended the State government to come out with a legislation, banning children below 16 years age group from using the social media.
Andhra Pradesh mulls over ban on social media for children below 13 He said the panel submitted a note to the Minister for Education Nara Lokesh to study the possibilities of enactment of an exclusive
law to protect the children from adult content and others. Mr. Raju asked the parents to check the smartphones being used by the children and guide them about the adverse impacts of social media which
would allow them to have contact with strangers. He said the teenagers needed to focus on academics and career to have bright future instead of allowing them to be trapped by the social media influencers and strangers.
