(PTI Image) Veteran Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee has backed party supremo Mamata Banerjee amid the ongoing rebellion within the TMC’s ranks, launching a sharp attack on a rebel faction of parliamentarians led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. Speaking to CNN-News18, Kalyan Banerjee made it clear that he would remain with Mamata despite the ongoing crisis, stressing that the party’s primary focus is to take on the BJP-led Democratic Alliance (NDA). He also signalled reconciliation with TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee after previously calling him “corrupt“, saying, “I have seen Abhishek grow up.
He has said that I can tell him things, so it’s okay. Now we have to fight against the NDA." TMC Crisis LIVE UPDATES This came after Abhishek Banerjee responded to Kalyan Banerjee’s recent remarks, saying, “Kalyan Banerjee is older than me. He has the right to express his views. He has seen me from childhood. I won’t speak anything against him." Kalyan Banerjee — a trusted aide of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and one of the key figures in the party — turned rebellious as he ripped into her nephew Abhishek, accusing him of destroying the party and humiliating him. The TMC MP also gave Mamata Banerjee an ultimatum to either choose him or Abhishek Banerjee, bringing renewed attention to the relationship between different power centres within the party. Kalyan Banerjee Hits Out At ‘Opportunist’ Rebels The senior TMC MP launched a fierce attack at rebel MPs who have formed a separate bloc within the party.
Questioning their claims of working for development, he asked whether they had remained connected with the people who elected them. “These people who are forming a block, have they ever gone to their constituencies? Why is Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar not going to her constituency?" he asked. Kalyan said the party would continue its political fight with those who remain loyal to the Trinamool Congress. “All of them are opportunists. We will fight with the people we have," he said. He also criticised the recent police action against party leaders and workers. Referring to searches and investigations, he alleged that the BJP-led administration was using state agencies to target opposition figures. His remarks came as TMC faces a widening crisis that has raised doubts about its political future. At the parliamentary level, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has claimed that nearly 20 MPs are willing to join the NDA.
