'I Got Carried Away, Deserve Hate': Pranit More Apologises Over 'Rs 370 Ki Biryani' Controversy Published By, Last Updated: June 13, 2026, 11:21 IST In a video uploaded on his Instagram, More said he deserved the hate for enabling the guy, calling it a lapse of judgment. Rapid Read Comedian Pranit More apologised for the Rs 370 controversy. (Instagram) Comedian Pranit More on Saturday sought an apology over the viral “Rs 370 ki biryani" controversy, saying he got carried away with the derogatory comments made by Himanshu Jangra and gave him a platform, which caused things to escalate. His apology came after a viral controversy erupted when Jangra shared a dating experience at More’s show, in which he suggested that because he had spent Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani on a date, he expected something in return from the woman. The remark triggered widespread outrage online, with many critics describing it as misogynistic, transactional, and reflective of attitudes that continue to influence modern dating dynamics.
In a video posted on his Instagram account, More said he had received significant backlash over the controversy, adding that he deserved the criticism for giving the man a platform to make derogatory remarks. “While I was doing crowd work with that guy, he said many derogatory things, but everyone was laughing. I got carried away, and it was a lapse in judgment. I feel this was a big mistake on my part. I could have stopped him there or taken a stand, but I didn’t," he said. “I gave him a platform, which caused things to escalate. To anyone who was hurt because of this, I want to apologise. Whatever legal proceedings are happening against me, I am cooperating with the authorities," he added. More requested people to give him another chance to become a better person, emphasising that the controversy was a learning experience for him. " I am working on myself, I will work on my content, and you will be able to see this in my work in the future." How Did The Controversy Escalate?
The Rs 370 biryani controversy escalated when Jangra shared graphic details on how he aggressively pressured the woman into a dark park and kept pushing even when she refused to kiss him. The crowd cheered, and More even gave him a cash prize. More himself uploaded the clip on his Instagram account that went viral. Within days, the clip had become one of the most-discussed topics on Indian social media. Many social media users, including prominent content creators and influencers, criticised the comedian for engaging with the conversation and laughing along, arguing that he could have stopped the man from making such remarks. Soon afterwards, Jangra’s Gurugram-based employer, Starvik Design, announced that it had terminated his employment. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday entered the national debate, saying that while he supported freedom of speech, no one should cross their limits. Taking suo motu cognisance of the viral video, the NCW said the remarks appeared to “glorify sexual coercion and non-consensual conduct towards a woman." NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar wrote to the Haryana Director General of Police seeking immediate action and an Action Taken Report within seven days.
