Rapid Read Victoria Mboko at Queen's Club (X) Victoria Mbokoâs dream grass-court season has come to a heartbreaking end. The 19-year-old Canadian star confirmed on Thursday that she will miss the remainder of the grass season, including Wimbledon, after suffering a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury in her left knee during her opening-round singles match against Karolina Pliskova at Queenâs Club. The injury came just days after one of the biggest moments of Mbokoâs young career â partnering Serena Williams in the American legendâs long-awaited return to professional tennis.

The setback was particularly painful given the momentum Mboko had built heading into the summer. Ranked ninth in the world, the teenager had been enjoying a breakthrough season and was expected to be one of the players to watch on grass. Her injury also brought an abrupt end to her doubles campaign with Williams. The pair had made an immediate impact at Queenâs Club, defeating Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe in straight sets.
The victory marked Williamsâ first competitive appearance in four years following her retirement from the sport. While Williamsâ comeback will continue at the Berlin Open, where she is reportedly set to partner Karolina Muchova, Mbokoâs focus now shifts entirely to recovery. Despite the disappointment, the Canadian took time to thank Williams for sharing the court with her. âThank you Serena for the incredible opportunity to play alongside you," Mboko wrote. âI learnt so much from you and am so sorry our tournament came to an end prematurely, but I hope we can play together again soon and finish what we started." Williams responded with a heartfelt message of support. âMy heart," the 23-time Grand Slam champion wrote. âMy (diamond) You will be even more amazing when you are back."
