British media reports claim the team has been hit by a robbery, with players’ boots and key training equipment allegedly stolen while in transit. The Football Association (FA) is reportedly assessing the extent of the theft, while police have made two arrests. The incident occurred while England’s training equipment was being transported from West Palm Beach, Florida, to the team’s base at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, where the squad is expected to stay for the next three weeks.
England are scheduled to begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia next week and are set to train on Saturday. According to the Daily Mail, only one football remains from the cargo that was targeted. Boots belonging to England captain Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are feared to be among the items stolen. “We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening. The investigation is ongoing," The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department was quoted as saying by the publication. FA hasn’t officially responded to the incident even as they continue to work with the local police to recover the stolen items. The incident happened after England enjoyed a productive build-up to their campaign opener as they defeated New Zealand 1-0, Costa Rica 3-0 and Miami FC 6-0 during friendly fixtures.
England are aiming to win their first FIFA World Cup since 1966 when they defeated West Germany 4-2 in the final. They’ve been placed in Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama.
