FIFA World Cup 2026: Cyle Larin Rescues Point For Canada Vs Bosnia On Historic Day Published By, Last Updated: June 13, 2026, 04:30 IST Jovo Lukic's first-half strike was cancelled out by Larin's 78th minute goal as Canada and Bosnia split the points on offer in their WC opener. Rapid Read Canada's Cyle Larin, center, celebrates after scoring his sides first goal of the game in the second half of the World Cup Group B soccer match between Canada and Bosnia, Friday, June 12, 2026, in Toronto. (Nathan Denette/The Canadian Press via AP) Canada picked up a point from their historic FIFA World Cup 2026 home debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina as they pegged the visitors back to a 1-1 stalemate at the Toronto Stadium in Ontario on Saturday.
Jovo Lukic’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Cyle Larin’s 78th minute goal as Canada and Bosnia split the points on offer in their WC opener. The quadrennial arrived at the Great White North for the first ever time as Canada welcomed it with a glittery opening ceremony against Bosnia, who made it to the spectacle at the cost of four-time champions Italy, who they dumped out in the final hurdle, to book their flight to North America. Bosnia started with star man Edin Dzeko on the bench, while Canada were without the services of their talisman Alfonso Davies. Bosnia grabbed the lead ahead of the midway point in the first period as Lukic ensured the ball crossed the line after it was headed his way off a brilliant corner towards the near post.
Bosnia dominated the box and were rewarded for it with the lead! The hosts went in search of the leveller, but lacked the end product to top off their quality build up time and again as the visitors took a slender lead into the break. Canada demonstrated incredible intent to push forward time and again only to come up short of finding the net as Saed Kolasinac came up with a goal line clearance to thwart the hosts’ hopes early in the second period. Canada make headway with a swathe of attacks but the Bosnian backline held on to the advantage through sheer gritty defence. Both sides saw a swathe of changes as the managers brought on fresh legs, and Canada boss Jesse Marsch’s faith in Larin was repaid as he found the back of the net in the 78th minute to restore parity.
