Police in Bihar's Katihar district have arrested a man for allegedly uploading his wife's private and objectionable photos and videos on social media after suspecting her of having an extramarital affair. The accused, Dayanand Kumar, allegedly shared the content online to defame his wife. His wife later filed a written complaint at the Cyber Police Station in Katihar, leading to his subsequent arrest. Read Full Story According to police, Dayanand married the complainant in 2023. Investigators said he frequently suspected his wife of having an affair and would even doubt her movements when she visited her parental home. Police said that driven by these suspicions, he repeatedly uploaded her private and objectionable photos and videos on social media.
Dayanand allegedly remained absconding for several months while the woman stayed at her parental home. Police teams conducted repeated raids before finally apprehending him. After his arrest, Dayanand admitted to posting his wife's private photos and videos on social media. However, he also claimed that he suspected his wife of having an affair and alleged that she had left with another person. He told police that he uploaded the content in anger and described his actions as a mistake. "She had gone away with someone. I uploaded it in anger. She had an affair earlier. I made a mistake," Dayanand said after his arrest. Cyber DSP Ashif Alam said police arrested Dayanand after verifying the allegations made by his wife.
He said the accused had been absconding and that a police team arrested him after receiving information about his whereabouts. "The wife alleged that the accused uploaded her private and objectionable photos and videos on social media. We verified the allegations and arrested him. We will complete the legal formalities and send him to jail," Alam said. The DSP said police seized Dayanand's mobile phone after the arrest and found private and objectionable photos and videos of his wife on the device. Investigators will send the material for forensic examination and continue the probe to determine whether the content was shared elsewhere or deleted from the device. Alam described the act as a legal offence and criticised what he called a "narrow mindset" among some individuals who seek publicity through social media by engaging in unlawful activities.
"Some people want to gain fame on social media by doing such things. This is a legal offence. Based on the complaint, we registered a case and arrested the accused. He will now be sent to jail," the DSP said. Police said the investigation is ongoing, including forensic analysis of the seized mobile phone. According to the DSP, the accused's alleged modus operandi suggests that he used the private content to gain attention and publicity on social media. Ends
