A 27-year-old woman employed at the Palghar District Collector's Office was critically injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon in broad daylight in Maharashtra's Palghar city, police said. The incident took place near the Gold Cinema area at around 6.30 pm, triggering panic among local residents. She sustained serious injuries in the attack and was initially rushed to Palghar Rural Hospital for emergency treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused, identified as Amol Mule, allegedly attacked Sawant following tensions related to their relationship. Officials said Mule is believed to be employed at the Bombay High Court. Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh confirmed the incident and said the motive behind the attack is still being investigated.
He visited the scene of the crime and also met the injured woman to gather information about the incident. Soon after receiving information about the attack, officers from the Palghar Police Station, led by Police Inspector Anant Parad, reached the spot and launched an investigation. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene and assist investigators in reconstructing the sequence of events. SUSPECT ON THE RUN Police have formed teams to trace the accused, who remains absconding. Authorities said efforts are underway to locate and arrest him at the earliest. While investigators are examining all possible angles, officials said the exact circumstances leading to the attack have not yet been established.
However, Superintendent of Police Deshmukh indicated that a dispute related to a romantic relationship is one of the primary lines of inquiry. The incident has sparked concern among residents of Palghar, with many expressing alarm over the violent attack in a busy area of the city.
