An FIR was registered against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief for allegedly making provocative remarks at a Kolkata rally earlier this year. According to a report by news agency ANI, the FIR was registered on June 7 under Sections 196(1), 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The complaint was filed by Tushar Kanti Das — a resident of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road at the Netaji Nagar Police Station— alleging Banerjee’s speech at the Dharna Mancha near Metro Channel in Esplanade (Dharmatala) on March 9 contained misleading remarks aimed at provoking breach of peace and threatening public harmony. According to the complainant, the speech posed a threat to West Bengal’s democratic framework. “We have received the complaint, and a case has been registered in accordance with legal procedure. All aspects of the speech and the context in which it was delivered are being thoroughly examined," a senior police officer said, as quoted by ANI. TMC Crisis Live Updates TMC’s Internal Crisis The development comes as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) continues to juggle an internal crisis with efforts to rebuild its organisational strength in the wake of debacle in the recently-concluded West Bengal Assembly Election.

Later, the dispute reached Delhi. A group of 19 dissident TMC MPs, led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, reportedly submitted a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla claiming Dastidar remains the party’s Chief Whip in the House and announcing its decision to back the BJP-led Democratic Party (BJP) in Parliament.
