Illegal intruders being thrown out, West Bengal now included: Rajnath Singh

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday asserted that the BJP delivers on its promises, claiming that illegal intruders are being driven out in all States governed by the party and similar action has now begun in West Bengal. “There is no gap between our words and actions. We are not focused on the next election, but on the next generation,” he said. Taking a swipe at the Congress, Mr. Singh remarked that while elections inevitably produce winners and losers, the party routinely questions institutions such as the Election Commission, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process whenever it loses.
“This is precisely why the Congress keeps losing elections consistently,” he said. Urging the party to introspect, he said that the Congress had eroded public trust through ‘false claims and flawed policies’, rather than acknowledging its shortcomings, addressing a gathering of intellectuals. Singh contrasted the BJP’s approach with that of the Congress and claimed that while the former respects the Constitution and public sentiment, the latter behaves as though it is entitled to rule. “The Congress views the country as a family estate, with Rahul Gandhi seeing himself as the natural successor to the Prime Minister’s post,” he said.
The Defence Minister said the country had emerged as a ‘trusted partner’ over the past 12 years, often being the first to provide assistance during disasters. “India is recognised as Vishwabandhu (friend of the world). However, our goodwill should not be mistaken for weakness — we have both vaccines and BrahMos missiles,” he said. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Singh credited his ‘honesty, integrity and simplicity’ for the BJP’s continued public support. “His life is an example of dedication and clean public service,” he said.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman and Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao were among those who received Mr. Singh on his arrival at Begumpet airport.
