Tension gripped Tadipatri on Friday (June 12, 2026) after the parallel mobilisation of crowds by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its allies, as well as the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), triggered a standoff, forcing the police to deploy additional forces across the municipal town. Tadipatri former municipal chairperson J.C. Prabhakar Reddy, along with a large number of followers, staged a protest demanding the arrest of former YSRCP MLA Kethireddy Peddareddy, his two sons, and 24 party activists for disrupting peace in the town.
He alleged that they harassed TDP workers during the previous YSRCP regime. The police also foiled Mr. Prabhakar Reddy’s attempt to reach Peddareddy’s house. While the coalition parties led by J.C. Prabhakar Reddy highlighted the NDA’s two years of governance, the YSRCP cadres denounced the government’s policies under the party’s protest banner, ‘Vennupotu Day.’ Anticipating potential law and order problems, the police promptly deployed additional forces across the town and detained Mr. Peddareddy before he could participate in the protest.
Prabhakar Reddy accused Mr. Peddareddy of continuously provoking tensions under the guise of political rallies. He demanded that the police act impartially and stated that the coalition parties would intensify protests if action was not taken against those named in the complaints submitted by the TDP leaders. As a parallel development, Mr. Peddareddy alleged that the police had curtailed democratic rights and were partial to the ruling party. As news of his detention spread, his supporters from across the Tadipatri constituency began to surge to his residence, creating further tension.
Meanwhile, Mr. Prabhakar Reddy launched a sit-in protest outside the urban police station, lying on a cot as part of his demonstration. However, with the intervention of senior police officers, the situation was brought under control quickly.
