Following the maternal deaths in Kota, a new healthcare crisis has emerged in Rajasthan. At a government hospital in Bikaner, five women are battling kidney failure and severe complications shortly after giving birth. The patients, currently in intensive care and on dialysis, suffered from infections and low platelet counts following both normal and caesarean deliveries. The state government has ordered a probe and formed a specialist panel to investigate potential causes, including contaminated medicines.
Officials state no link to the Kota deaths has been established yet. Amid the ongoing investigation, the state health minister questioned if the women arrived at the hospital dancing and singing or if they were genuinely sick. The hospital principal attributed the complications to severe dehydration caused by the extreme heat. The state opposition chief condemned the minister's remarks and demanded his removal. Families of the affected women continue to await answers as questions regarding the state's maternal healthcare infrastructure and administrative accountability remain unresolved.
