1. Required majority support to form govt. not established: Governor Arlekar Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has explained to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay that the requisite majority support in the State Legislative Assembly, essential for forming the government, has not been established, the Lok Bhavan said today (May 7, 2026). Vijay’s meeting with the Governor for the second day in a row, took place following an invitation of the Governor to the Lok Bhavan, an official statement said. Meanwhile, citing that TVK has emerged as the single largest in the recent election, several allies of the DMK urged the Governor to invite the party to form the government. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has announced a State-wide protest tomorrow against the Governor.

2. Stalin convenes meeting with allies, MLA-designates This morning, DMK president and outgoing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin hurriedly convened a meeting of the party’s allies, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), the Communist Party of India (CPI), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), amid speculation that the DMK may extend support to an All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government headed by Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Later in the evening, he chaired a meeting of his party’s newly-elected MLA-designates. 3. Vijay calls Thirumavalavan, seeks VCK’s support Amid the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) efforts to form the next government in Tamil Nadu, leaders of the party reached out to those of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the two Communist parties, seeking support.

“We have to discuss the issue with the frontline leaders of the party. We are also continuously discussing it with the leaders of the Communist parties. We will take a decision together,” Mr. Thirumavalavan said after visiting the office of the Communist Party of India (CPI). 4. AIADMK MLA-elects in Puducherry resort Confirming that some newly-elected legislators of the AIADMK from Tamil Nadu are accommodated in a resort in Puducherry on the ‘directions’ of Mr. Palaniswami, AIADMK Puducherry unit secretary and MLA elect A. Anbalagan said that all legislators are united under the leadership of party general secretary. “There is no faction, all elected MLAs are here on the directions of Mr. Palaniswami. They are here not because of any directions given by some other leader.
