(Image for Representation) An 82-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his son in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar shortly after a court ruled in the father’s favour in a property dispute. The victim, Jafar Qamaruddin Sayyed Patel, a retired Water Resources Department employee, had been engaged in a legal battle with his son, Abdul Rehman Abdul Jafar, over possession of his house.
According to NDTV, the court recently ordered the son’s eviction and restored ownership of the property to Patel. The incident occurred while Patel was returning home from court with the eviction order. As per the report, the accused intercepted the autorickshaw in which his father was travelling, stopped the vehicle and allegedly attacked him with a knife in the middle of the road. Patel sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot, according to the report. The property dispute reportedly stemmed from longstanding tensions between the father and son. Abdul Rehman, who works as a medical representative, allegedly engaged in frequent quarrels with family members and physically assaulted them.
As a result, Patel had moved out of his house and begun living with his daughter in Pune. He subsequently filed a case seeking possession of the property and his son’s eviction. Following nearly two years of litigation, the court ruled in Patel’s favour and directed that the property be returned to him, NDTV reported. Police have launched an investigation into the killing and further details will be shared accordingly.
