(AFP) A year after the devastating Air India crash in Ahmedabad that claimed 241 lives, the crash site stood surrounded in silence and grief on Friday as relatives of the victims began arriving to pay tribute to their loved ones. Air India’s Boeing 787-8 or Dreamliner, enroute to London Gatwick, crashed soon after takeoff on June 12, 2025, killing 241 people onboard and 19 on the ground. The area has been heavily cordoned off since early morning, with a strong police presence restricting access to the site.
Barricades and security personnel lined the surrounding roads as authorities continued their investigation into the tragedy. Families Pay Tribute To Their Loved Ones Many arrived carrying photographs, flowers and memories of those they lost. Some stood quietly, staring toward the crash site, while others broke down as the reality of the tragedy continued to sink in. For many, it was the closest they could get to the place where their loved ones spent their final moments. The atmosphere remained sombre, punctuated only by hushed conversations, prayers and tears. Several family members were seen consoling one another as they gathered near the restricted zone. Authorities have limited access to ensure security and facilitate ongoing recovery and investigative work. Police personnel remained stationed across the area, preventing unauthorised entry while assisting grieving families arriving at the site. British High Commissioner Pays Tribute British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron visited the crash site and paid tribute.
