The remains of Anuroop Reddy, who died in the US state of Louisiana on May 29 while trying to save three of his friends, arrived in India and were brought to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad, where family members, officials and well-wishers paid their last respects. A resident of Kavidipalli village in Abdullapurmet mandal of Ranga Reddy district, he had moved to the United States for higher education and had recently completed his Master's degree in Computer Science. However, his feet became entangled in a fishing net as he attempted to return to safety. Despite efforts by people on the shore to rescue him, he was swept away by the strong river currents and lost his life. Nearly a month and a half after the tragedy, Anuroop's remains arrived at Hyderabad airport on June 9. Emotional scenes were witnessed as family members, officials and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects. At Shamshabad Airport, Additional Collector Kiranmayi formally handed over Anuroop's body to the family. Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, along with several MLAs, also visited Anuroop's residence on Monday, paid their respects to his remains, and offered condolences and support to his family.
Remembering his bravery, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Anuroop's parents and family members on behalf of the Telangana government and the people of the state. "He (Revanth) prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and assured the family that the government would stand by them during this period of grief," the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in a post on X. Revanth Reddy said he was deeply shocked by the news of Anuroop's death and noted that, despite being only 23 years old and having a bright future ahead of him, he displayed "extraordinary courage, selflessness and heroism, setting an example for others." The Chief Minister said that when three of his friends were drowning, Anuroop did not hesitate to jump into the water to rescue them.
While his brave act saved their lives, it was heartbreaking that he lost his own life in the process. He added that the humanity, compassion, courage and self-sacrifice displayed by Anuroop during the incident would remain an enduring example of noble service and bravery. Ends
