Mumbai News | CM Devendra Fadnavis Unveils Singapore-Style Vision for Dharavi Redevelopment
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the Dharavi Redevelopment Project and directed officials to model it on modern housing projects in Singapore and Hong Kong
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the Dharavi Redevelopment Project and directed officials to model it on modern housing projects in Singapore and Hong Kong. He said the focus should remain on residents, their livelihoods and Dharavi's unique culture rather than commercial gains. The government plans to hand over 10,000 rehabilitation homes by March 2028, with the entire project expected to be completed within a decade.
Special measures are being planned to protect Dharavi's small industries, including leather, textile, recycling and food-processing units, while preserving the cultural identity of areas like Kumharwada. The project also includes a multi-modal transport hub connecting railway lines, Metro corridors and the future bullet train network, along with proposed air taxi and water taxi connectivity. Green spaces, a nature park and the beautification of the BKC-Dharavi corridor are also part of the redevelopment plan.
