Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over recent incidents involving attacks on commercial ships carrying Indian crew members and the deaths of Indian nationals. The former Delhi chief minister criticised the central government for what he described as surrendering India's "sovereignty, pride and the lives of its citizens" to US President Donald Trump. Read Full Story Reacting to a post by PM Modi on X in which he thanked Trump for congratulating him on becoming India's longest-serving elected head of government, Kejriwal referred to the US military strikes that targeted foreign-flagged vessels carrying Indian sailors near the conflict-hit Strait of Hormuz recently and asked what the prime minister was exactly expressing gratitude for.
"PM Modi is saying 'thank you' to Trump. Thank you for exactly what? For attacking ships with Indians on board and killing Indian nationals? The situation has become hopelessly embarrassing for our country now," the AAP supremo said. He added, "Modi ji has completely surrendered India's sovereignty, pride and the lives of its citizens to Trump." Kejriwal further asserted that India needs a "strong" leadership and that Trump cannot be allowed to "do whatever" he feels like with India and its citizens.
"India needs a strong Prime Minister. Trump cannot be allowed to do whatever he pleases with our country and our people," the e Delhi CM stated. The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said three merchant ships with Indian crew members came under attack from the US military off the coast of Oman in the last four days, resulting in the death of three nationals. It said it has strongly taken up the matter with Washington.
