Hyderabad Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy inspected the progress of the AMRP High-Level Canal lining works, being executed at ₹442 crore, and directed Irrigation Department officials to speed up the project and complete the maximum possible stretch by July 31. The Minister inspected the ongoing canal lining works at Nursing Batla, Kudavanpur and Gundlapally villages in Nalgonda mandal on Thursday.
During the review, he instructed officials to accelerate the pace of execution to ensure uninterrupted water flow to tail-end ayacut areas during the current agricultural season. He said canal lining is being undertaken along a stretch of nearly 136 kilometres from Angadipeta to Musi. While the canal excavation works were completed during 1985-86, lining works are being taken up nearly four decades later following the initiative of the State Government.
According to officials, completion of the project will significantly improve water conveyance efficiency and facilitate irrigation to nearly 2.20 lakh acres. The Minister also directed officials to make foolproof arrangements for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s visit
to Nalgonda district on June 17 for the launch of major infrastructure projects. The Chief Minister would lay the foundation stone for HAM (Hybrid Annuity Model) road projects worth nearly ₹14,500 crore being taken up across Telangana.
