Days after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad returned from Singapore, the former Bihar Chief Minister celebrated his 79th birthday at his wife Rabri Deviâs official residence on Thursday (June 11, 2026) amongst his family members and some party leaders. Extending his greetings, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary wished Mr. Prasad a âhealthy, long and illustrious lifeâ. âHeartfelt birthday wishes to the former CM of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav ji. I pray to the lord for your healthy, long and illustrious life,â Mr. Choudhary posted on X. DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin too greeted Mr. Prasad in a social media post saying: âWarm birthday wishes to RJD national president Thiru@LaluPrasadRJD. Your consistent defence of secularism and social justice remains an inspiration to democratic and progressive forces across the country.
Wishing you good health and happinessâ. Several other leaders wished Mr. Prasad on his 79th birthday. Prasadâs son and Leader of Opposition in the State Asembly Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leaders Abdul Bari Siddiqui, State party president Mangani Lal Mandal and party MLA from Maner Bhai Birendra took part in the celebrations. The ailing Mr. Prasad recently returned from Singapore where his daughter Rohini Acharya lives. Upon his return to the country after seeking medical treatment, he was seen moving in a vehicle without any security personnel on the roads of Patna. His wife, who is also a former Chief Minister, had refused to take security cover for her and Mr. Prasad by the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP) personnel after the government decided to withdraw Z+ security cover to them under the new security cover protocol.
The Bihar government had also served notices to Ms. Devi to vacate her official residence at 10, Circular Road with the Chief Minister asserting that the government bungalow had to be vacated âat any costâ. Sources close to Mr. Prasadâs family told The Hindu that they would vacate the official residence, which has been their address for over two decades, within a week. All 10 candidates who had filed their nomination papers for the vacant seats of the Bihar Legislative Council were declared winners unopposed on Thursday after no other person filed any nomination to contest the elections. Among the winners were Nishant Kumar, son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and popular Bhojpuri film actor and singer Pawan Singh.
