Assistant Commissioner Shikar Mugha on Thursday called upon students graduating from universities and institutions of higher education to nurture entrepreneurial skills and become productive contributors to society and the nation’s development. Speaking after inaugurating a placement drive organised by the Training and Placement Cell of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Sharnbasva University in association with the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), Mr. Mugha said that young graduates should explore entrepreneurship instead of limiting themselves to conventional employment opportunities. Sharing his personal journey, Mr. Mugha said that experiences gained during his engineering studies and internship exposed him to a wider world of opportunities and inspired him to prepare for the Civil Services Examination rather than pursue a corporate career.
He noted that several of his friends went on to become successful entrepreneurs now providing employment to thousands of skilled youths. He urged students to identify and develop their entrepreneurial potential and contribute to achieving the development and economic goals of the State and the nation. Highlighting the need for balanced regional development, Mr. Mugha said that Kalyana Karnataka required greater industrial and economic growth to generate employment opportunities for educated youth. He added that the government has initiated several measures in this direction. Successful entrepreneur and Hero Motors principal dealer Krishnaji Kulkarni shared his entrepreneurial journey and said that he launched his first business venture with an investment of ₹10,000 after failing to secure suitable employment despite completing engineering and management studies.
“What began with a dealership for mopeds eventually grew into an enterprise that now provides employment to more than 500 people,” he said. Expressing concern over the lack of entrepreneurial drive among many young people, Mr. Kulkarni encouraged students to take calculated risks and be prepared to shoulder responsibilities in the workplace. He also said that his organisation has vacancies in executive positions and welcomed applications from capable candidates. Doddappa Nisty, who is a principal dealer for Renault and Eicher Heavy Vehicles, said that hard work and entrepreneurial skills are essential for building a successful professional career. Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha secretary Basavaraj Deshmukh said that the placement drive will create new employment opportunities for students.
