Minister and senior JD(S) leader H.D. Revanna has expressed confidence over the party leadership resolving its differences with G.T. Deve Gowda, veteran party leader and Chamundeshwari MLA. Fielding queries from reporters in Mysuru on Thursday (June 11), Mr. Revanna pointed out that Mr. G.T. Deve Gowda had met former Prime Minister and party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda in Bengaluru recently and informed him that he would contest the next Assembly elections from the Chamundeshwari constituency as a JD(S) candidate. When Mr. Revanna’s attention was drawn to the reported souring of Mr. G.T. Deve Gowda’s relationship with Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy and the refusal of the JD(S) to display his photograph on publicity material of the party in Chamundeshwari constituency, Mr. Revanna said all those issues will be set right with the passage of time.
He said Mr. H.D. Deve Gowda, together with Mr. Kumaraswamy, will resolve the outstanding differences in the party with Mr. G.T. Deve Gowda. Revanna said the Chamundeshwari MLA, whom he has known since 1994, is a senior leader of the party, and all the senior leaders together with former Minister S.R. Mahesh will sit and take a decision that will be favourable to protect the interests of the party. To another question on D.K. Shivakumar assuming charge as the Chief Minister, Mr. Revanna said he is glad that a person from the Vokkaliga community has occupied the coveted post.
“I have no objection. Let him do good work and we will support him,” he said. However, when his attention was drawn to the possibility of the Vokkaliga vote bank of the JD(S) going towards the Congress, Mr. Revanna asked what happened during the 2004 Assembly elections after S.M. Krishna, then with the Congress, was the Chief Minister. Rajya Sabha Revanna said Mr. H.D. Deve Gowda had not sought a nomination to the Rajya Sabha. Referring to the media coverage of the issue, Mr. Revanna sought to make it clear that neither the party, nor Mr. Kumaraswamy, nor he had sought the nomination.
“Mr. H.D. Deve Gowda has himself made it clear that his relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is more important to him and he wishes to strengthen his hands,” he said.
