India Flags Pakistan's 40-Hour Silence On PoK Crisis, Calls Response A 'Predictable Deflection' Reported By, Edited By Last Updated: June 11, 2026, 14:24 IST Indian government sources said the prolonged silence points to “internal confusion, lack of coordination, and difficulty in crafting a rebuttal to India’s factual remarks” Rapid Read Indian government sources said Pakistan's prolonged silence points to “internal confusion, lack of coordination, and difficulty in crafting a rebuttal to India’s factual remarks”. More than 40 hours after India sharply criticised Pakistan over its handling of unrest and human rights abuses in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has finally issued a response, rejecting India’s remarks regarding what it refers to as “Azad Kashmir". In a statement, the Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson said, “We reject India’s remarks regarding Azad Kashmir," and accused New Delhi of attempting to divert attention from alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesperson further claimed that issues in “Azad Kashmir" are being addressed “within the framework of the constitution and the law". The response comes after an unusually long delay. According to top Indian government sources, Pakistan’s Foreign Office typically reacts to Kashmir-related statements within three to four hours. This time, however, Islamabad took more than 40 hours to formulate its response, a gap that Indian officials describe as highly unusual. Indian government sources said the prolonged silence points to “internal confusion, lack of coordination, and difficulty in crafting a rebuttal to India’s factual remarks". They argued that Pakistan’s eventual response followed a familiar pattern of rejecting criticism and redirecting the conversation toward Jammu and Kashmir rather than addressing developments inside PoK. The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier condemned what it described as severe police brutality against protesters in PoK and called on the international community to hold Pakistan accountable.
India cited reports of significant casualties and injuries during security force action against demonstrators amid widespread unrest in the region. Responding to Pakistan’s latest remarks, Indian sources said New Delhi’s position is based on “ground realities of unrest, protests, and suppression in PoK," and not an attempt to deflect attention from other issues. They questioned why Islamabad continues to avoid addressing the grievances that have fueled protests across the region. “Pakistan should explain why people in PoK are protesting against their own administration instead of blaming India," a source said. The exchange follows days of heightened tensions after reports of a deadly crackdown on protesters in Rawalakot and other parts of PoK, with India repeatedly raising concerns over the situation and urging international scrutiny. For Indian officials, however, the most striking aspect of Pakistan’s response was not its content, but its timing. After more than 40 hours of silence on an issue where Islamabad has historically reacted within hours, New Delhi believes the delay itself raises questions about Pakistan’s ability to defend its position amid growing scrutiny over events in PoK.
