(Image: PTI/File) A technical fault was reported in a private jet associated with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, leading to a delay in its scheduled departure from Mumbai to Delhi. The flight, originally scheduled to take off at 5 pm on June 9, departed two hours later at 7 pm.
According to the information available, the aircraft that developed the technical issue belonged to VSR Company, and the flight was also operated by the same company. Sunetra Pawar’s husband and former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was killed in a plane crash operated by the same charter firm VSR Ventures, on January 28 in Baramati. Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) marked its twenty-seventh anniversary on Wednesday in two separate camps, with both the NCP and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) claiming ownership of the party’s legacy while confronting an uncertain political future. The anniversary also marked the first since the death of Ajit Pawar, the charismatic “Dada" who had long served as the Nationalist Congress Party’s organisational backbone.
His sudden death significantly altered political equations within the Pawar family and across Maharashtra. Founded on June 10, 1999, by Sharad Pawar, Purno Agitok Sangma and Tariq Anwar after their split from the Congress over the issue of Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origin, the Nationalist Congress Party went on to become one of Maharashtra’s most influential political forces. However, the party witnessed a major split in June–July 2023, resulting in the formation of two rival factions: one led by Ajit Pawar, which is now part of the BJP-led Maha Yuti government (NDA), and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), aligned with the Maha Vikas Aghadi under the Congress-led INDIA bloc.
