A resident of Deoria village in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district has turned entrepreneur with the help of a Rs 10 lakh loan under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), building a dairy business that now generates employment for three others and earns him a monthly income of up to Rs 30,000.

Sharing his journey, Ram Lakhan said he always aspired to do something innovative and improve his family’s financial condition. However, limited resources and lack of capital stood in the way of achieving his dream. He got big assistance via Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), which is being implemented by the UP government through the District Industries Centre. He applied under the scheme and received a loan of Rs 10 lakh in 2024. With financial assistance from the government, Ram Lakhan established a dairy business and gradually expanded its operations. Today, his dairy unit produces around 5 to 8 quintals of milk every day, which is supplied in the local market, contributing to the area’s economic activity.

The venture has not only improved his own livelihood but has also created employment opportunities for three other people in the village. After meeting operational expenses, Ram Lakhan now earns a net monthly income of approximately Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000. Officials said schemes being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to promote employment, self-employment and entrepreneurship are helping build a strong foundation for self-reliance across the state. Through such initiatives, many young people in Uttar Pradesh are transforming from job seekers into self-reliant entrepreneurs who are also generating employment opportunities for others.
