Rajasthan minister Ramesh Meena on Wednesday challenged former chief minister Ashok Gehlot to subject him to a narco test if there was any evidence that he had accepted Rs 10 crore during the 2020 political crisis that rocked the Congress government in the state. The challenge came in response to allegations from Gehlot's camp that some MLAs who rebelled against the Congress government in 2020 had accepted an advance payment of Rs 10 crore as part of a plot to bring down the administration.
Read Full Story Meena, who was among the legislators who revolted during the crisis led by Sachin Pilot, rejected the allegation and said he was willing to undergo a narco analysis test. "I challenge you to conduct a narco test on me and prove that I took Rs 10 crore. At the same time, a narco test should also be conducted on you to reveal how much money you gave to Independent, BTP and BJP MLAs. We also have documents," Meena said while addressing a Kisan Sammelan in Karauli.
He alleged that such accusations resurface whenever the Congress appears to be gaining political momentum and accused Gehlot's camp of repeatedly reviving the issue for political reasons. Meena also took a swipe at Gehlot's electoral record, saying the Congress had suffered setbacks under his leadership despite his serving three terms as chief minister. Addressing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Meena urged him to carefully assess those advising him and place greater trust in honest party workers. The remarks revive memories of the 2020 Rajasthan political crisis, when then deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and several loyalist MLAs rebelled against Gehlot's leadership, pushing the Congress government to the brink.
The standoff was eventually resolved after intervention by the party high command, though Pilot was removed as deputy chief minister and Rajasthan Congress president. Ends Inputs from PTI
