Raghav Chadha Compares PM Modi’s Political Journey With Nehru’s, Hails Historic Tenure: 'The Harder Achievement' Published By, Last Updated: June 11, 2026, 09:28 IST Drawing a comparison between PM Modi and Nehru, BJP MP Raghav Chadha argued that the two leaders operated in vastly different political environments. Chadha said June 10, 2026, marked a historic moment in Indian politics as PM Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office. BJP MP Raghav Chadha on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he surpassed India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, to become the country’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister. In a lengthy post on X, Chadha said that June 10, 2026, marked a historic moment in Indian politics as PM Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, overtaking Nehru’s record of 4,398 days. Reflecting on the significance of the milestone, Chadha described India as one of the most complex democracies in the world, with a population of 1.4 billion people, immense linguistic, cultural and religious diversity, and an electorate larger than the population of Europe.
He noted that despite these complexities, Modi had secured the trust of Indian voters in three consecutive general elections in 2014, 2019 and 2024. “To win the trust of so vast and diverse a nation even once is remarkable. To win it three times over, without a break, is extraordinary," Chadha said. Drawing a comparison between Modi and Nehru, the BJP MP argued that the two leaders operated in vastly different political environments. According to Chadha, Nehru led India during the formative years of the Republic when the Congress party enjoyed overwhelming political dominance and faced a fragmented opposition. In contrast, he said Modi’s electoral successes came in an era marked by coalition politics, strong regional parties and intense multi-party competition. History has been written today. On 10 June 2026, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji completes 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing the 4,398 days of India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ji, to become the longest continuously serving elected Prime… — Raghav Chadha (@raghav_chadha) June 10, 2026 Chadha highlighted that Modi secured absolute majorities for the Bharatiya Janata Party in both 2014 and 2019, achievements that ended a decades-long gap since the last single-party majority government in 1984.
He also pointed to the BJP-led Democratic Alliance’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections under Modi’s leadership. “To command the trust of so fiercely contested a nation, mandate after mandate, is by any measure the harder achievement," Chadha wrote. The MP said the milestone was not only a testament to Modi’s leadership but also reflected the confidence repeatedly placed in him by Indian voters. He concluded by wishing the Prime Minister good health and a long life, expressing hope that Modi would continue to receive public support in the years ahead.
