A probe into the deaths of five women following C-section deliveries at a government hospital in Kota, Rajasthan, has revealed that fake oxytocin injections containing only water were administered. Oxytocin is a critical drug used post-delivery to control excessive bleeding. The lack of the active ingredient caused the new mothers to bleed to death.
Following these findings, Punjab authorities have revoked the manufacturing license of the Amritsar-based laboratory linked to the supplied batch. While the state government initially denied any direct link, the health minister has now admitted that the vials contained only water.
