India on Wednesday summoned the United States' Charge d'Affaires in New Delhi to lodge a strong protest over the attack on a commercial vessel off the coast of Oman that had 24 Indian crew members onboard. Nagaraj Naidu, Additional Secretary (Americas) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), summoned Jason Meeks, Charge d’Affaires of the United States, following the attack on the tanker Settebello.

According to the MEA, 21 Indian crew members have been rescued, while three remain missing. Indian authorities are continuing efforts to trace the missing sailors in coordination with local officials.
India also reiterated its call for restraint amid rising regional tensions and stressed the need to protect commercial shipping routes. The ministry urged all sides to avoid further escalation and called for the restoration of safe navigation in international waters, warning that attacks on civilian vessels pose risks to global maritime security and trade.
