The recovery comes just a day after 14 Kuki individuals, abducted on the same day from Manipur’s Senapati district, were released after nearly a month in captivity.
More than 50 people were abducted and held hostage by armed groups in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts on May 13, hours after three church leaders were killed in an ambush in Kangpokpi district. Of those abducted, 31 have since been released, including 12 Naga women from Konsakhul village and 16 Kukis from Kangpokpi district. However, six Naga men were still unaccounted for until Wednesday, when police said their mortal remains were recovered following an extensive search operation. In a post on X, Manipur Police said a large-scale search operation involving around 450 personnel from the Manipur Police, CRPF and Assam Rifles, supported by sniffer dogs and forensic teams, was carried out for nearly 24 hours before the remains were found.
