1. Bond with PM Modi unaffected by Rajya Sabha nominations: H.D. Deve Gowda Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, whose political career in public office is ending with completion of his term in Rajya Sabha on June 25, on June 10, 2026, said that his relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not linked to his Rajya Sabha nominations. He also said that he had not asked for his re-nomination. “I have developed a relationship with Mr. Modi since 2014 though (Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister) Chandrababu Naidu and I had criticized Mr. Modi on Godhra issue when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. My relationship with the Prime Minister will not end because of one Rajya Sabha seat,” said the nonagenerian leader, who has been in politics for over six decades. Gowda’s statement comes after the Congress criticized BJP for denying him an opportunity to continue in the Rajya Sabha, with party leaders terming the development as “insult and humiliation” heaped on the veteran leader.
2. Status quo on portfolios likely until next Cabinet expansion The Congress high command is expected to maintain the status quo on allocation of portfolios among Ministers in the ruling Congress government led by D.K. Shivakumar at least till the expansion of the State Cabinet, which is expected to take place at the end of June. Ministers K.H. Muniyappa, Ramalinga Reddy and Krishna Byre Gowda have been sulking since portfolio allocation. Sources in the party said the CM is expected to hold a meeting on the issue with the party’s Central leaders and make a decision on the matter. On June 10, for the first time after assuming the CM’s office, Mr. Shivakumar called on Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress MPs Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in New Delhi and thanked them for elevating him to the top post.
3. CM Siddaramaiah alleges political conspiracy behind rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s RS nomination Karnataka chief minister and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Siddaramaiah alleged that the rejection of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha election from Madhya Pradesh was a ‘blatant illegality’, and part of a broader attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to manipulate democratic institutions for political gain. Siddaramaiah said it was ‘ironic’ that the BJP was celebrating PM Narendra Modi’s long tenure in office as a milestone for Indian democracy while, at the same time, the election machinery had rejected the nomination of a Congress candidate. “The rejection of Ms. Natarajan’s nomination is not a routine scrutiny decision. It is a blatant illegality, and a clear political conspiracy,” he said. 4. Applications seeking change of name in birth certificate being rejected by Mangaluru City Corporation Disregarding clear directions by the Karnataka High Court in 2024 to allow parents to make changes in the name of children in the birth certificate, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) continues to reject such applications by stating that it is empowered to make changes only in case of clerical errors.
