The Amruthahalli police have arrested a Nepali couple for allegedly stealing ₹25 lakh in cash from their employer’s residence and recovered the entire amount. The accused have been identified as Pawan Bista, alias Bhuvan, and his wife Sita Bista, both from Nepal. According to police, C.H. Subbrareddy, a contractor who resides in Arkavathi Layout, had withdrawn ₹25 lakh from a bank to pay wages to his workers.
He reportedly kept the cash in a locked cupboard inside a room and concealed the key beneath clothes in another cupboard. The accused couple had been employed at the contractor’s residence as a security guard and domestic help. On the morning of May 27, the contractor left home for work, while his wife remained at the house. When he returned in the evening, he found that the couple was missing and the room allotted to them was open.
Repeated attempts to contact them on their mobile phones failed as the phones were switched off. Growing suspicious, the contractor checked the cupboard and discovered that the ₹25 lakh had been stolen. He subsequently lodged a complaint with the Amruthahalli police. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. Acting on credible information, officers tracked down and arrested the couple on May 28.
The entire stolen amount was recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to committing the theft to fund a luxurious lifestyle, the police said.
