कालाहांडी जिसकी पहचान रही है भुखमरी, कुपोषण, गरीबी, सूखा, अशिक्षा और पलायन। एक वक्त हुआ करता था जब एंबुलेंस नहीं पहुंचने के कारण कालाहांडी में लोगों की मौत हो जाया करती थी। महिलाएं अपने बच्चों का पेट तक नहीं भर पाती थी। लेकिन पिछले 10 से 12 सालों में काला हांडी बहुत तेजी से बदला है जिसे Zee न्यूज़ ने अपने कैमरे में कैद कर लिया है। कालाहांडी करीब 7920 कि.मी. में फैला एक इलाका जो कभी भुखमरी तो कभी बेरोजगारी के लिए बदनाम रहा। लेकिन दुनिया को सबसे ज्यादा झगझोरा साल 2016 की उस तस्वीर ने जिसमें दाना मांझी अपनी पत्नी का शव कंधे पर ढोते हुए नजर आए।
वो भी सिर्फ इसलिए क्योंकि एंबुलेंस नहीं मिली। लेकिन क्या 10 साल बीत जाने पर उनके गांव तक एंबुलेंस पहुंच पाई है। हमने दाना मांझी से मिलकर यह जानने की कोशिश की। एंबुलेंस को फ़ कर देते हैं और वो जल्दी आ जाती है। Kalahandi has been characterized by hunger, malnutrition, poverty, drought, illiteracy, and migration.
