The Union Cabinet on Wednesday (June 10, 2026) congratulated Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of the country, surpassing the previous record held by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who served for 4,398 continuous days from 1952 to 1964. The Cabinet adopted resolutions expressing gratitude for the work done under his leadership for the welfare and empowerment of the poor and the marginalised, and appreciated his policies that have enabled over 25 crore poor people to defeat poverty, and his efforts for inclusive growth and social justice. It praises his leadership in strengthening national security and protecting Indiaās interests and extended its full support for his resolve in building a āViksit Bharat (Developed India)ā. The adopted resolution concluded by extending best wishes for Mr. Modiās excellent health and long life.
āIt firmly expresses absolute confidence that under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi, India will continue to achieve new heights as a self-reliant, secure, prosperous, and glorious nation, strongly paving the way to becoming a developed nation by 2047,ā said a government release. The resolution underscored that the āpolitical stability, dynamic governance, and far-sighted policies of the last 12 years have transformed India into the worldās fastest-growing large economyā. The text highlighted that Mr. Modiās achievement coincided with the Democratic Alliance (NDA) government completing 12 years under his leadership and that he was also approaching 25 years of continuous service as head of government. It noted that after six decades, the country had given a mandate to the NDA government for a third consecutive term. The youth contribution in making the country the worldās third-largest startup ecosystem and a scientific power was also recognised.
āA new chapter of āWomen-Led Developmentā is detailed through comprehensive policies ranging from smoke-free kitchens and the Lakhpati Didi campaign to the historic 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies,ā it said, affirming farmers as a core pillar of a āViksit Bharatā. The text applauded initiatives like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and Kisan Credit Cards, which have helped propel agricultural exports past the ā¹5 lakh crore mark. It commended decisions such as the abrogation of Article 370, the implementation of the Goods & Services Tax, the One Rank One Pension scheme, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the consolidation of labour codes. It emphasised stringent measures taken against terrorism, such as surgical and cross-border air strikes, āOperation Sindoorā, and the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.
