It is intended to house central government departments and public sector undertakings, many of which currently operate from locations in Vijayawada and Guntur. The residential project, meanwhile, will be the first General Pool Residential Accommodation campus in Amaravati and Andhra Pradesh. Planned over 17 acres, it will comprise 11 residential towers with 1,504 dwelling units across Type-II to Type-VI categories and a total built-up area of 31.3 lakh sq ft. The campus will also provide parking for nearly 2,000 vehicles.According to the government, the housing complex aims to ease accommodation challenges for central government employees, reduce commuting time and improve administrative efficiency by enabling staff to live closer to their workplaces. The residential campus will include amenities such as a bank, ATM, post office, crèche, community hall, food court, shopping complex, service centre and guest house.
It will also feature barrier-free infrastructure for persons with disabilities. Both projects will be developed in line with green building norms. The GPRA campus is targeted to achieve a minimum 4-star GRIHA rating and comply with the latest Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) and Eco-Niwas Samhita standards. The government expects the
residential project alone to generate around seven lakh man-days of employment annually during construction and about 50,000 man-days per year during operations. The approvals come as the Centre steps up investment in Amaravati after the Andhra Pradesh government reaffirmed the city as the state's capital and accelerated work on long-pending infrastructure projects.
