Dr Sharadwat Mukherjee has been appointed Minister for Health and Family Welfare. Finance to Swapan Dasgupta, Industry to Tapas Roy in Bengal BJP Government The West Bengal government has announced the allocation of portfolios among ministers who took oath on June 1. A total of 35 ministers were sworn in. Among them, 13 took oath as Cabinet Ministers, three BJP legislators were sworn in as Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 19 MLAs took oath as Ministers of State. The notification issued from state secretariat, Nabanna, outlined the responsibilities assigned to each minister in the new government. One of the key appointments is that of Swapan Dasgupta, who has been given charge of the Finance Department, becoming the first Finance Minister in a BJP government in West Bengal.
Suvendu retains major departments Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will continue to hold several crucial portfolios. He will remain Minister-in-Charge of the Home and Hill Affairs Department, Land and Land Reforms and Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation Department, Power Department, Information and Cultural Affairs Department, and Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department. Any department not allotted to other ministers will also remain under him. According to the allocation, Home, Land Revenue, Power and Law will remain with the Chief Minister for now. Key cabinet appointments Apart from Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, several senior BJP leaders have been entrusted with important departments. Tapas Roy has been given charge of the Department of Industry, Commerce and Enterprises, Department of Public Enterprises and Industrial Reconstruction, and Department of Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources. Dr Sharadwat Mukherjee has been appointed Minister for Health and Family Welfare. Jagannath Chattopadhyay will head the Higher Education and Technical Education, Training and Skill Development Department. Dipak Barman has been assigned School Education along with Housing and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Textiles.
Arjun Singh will oversee Labour and Transport, while Dudh Kumar Mondal has been given the Agriculture Department. Other cabinet ministers include Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania, Dilip Ghosh, Kshudiram Tudu, Agnimitra Paul, Dr Shankar Ghosh, Manoj Kumar Oraon, Gouri Sankar Ghosh, Dr Kalyan Chakraborti, Arup Kumar Das and Dr Ajay Kumar Poddar. Ministers of State and Independent Charge The government also announced portfolios for Ministers of State with Independent Charge. Malati Rava Roy will oversee Women and Child Development and Social Welfare, Self Help Group and Self Employment, and Programme Monitoring. Rajesh Mahata has been given Animal Resources Development and Fisheries, while Dr Indranil Khan will handle Youth Services and Sports and Consumer Affairs. Among Ministers of State, Joyel Murmu, Hare Krishna Bera, Anandamay Barman, Ashoke Dinda, Nadiar Chand Bouri, Bishal Lama, Santanu Pramanik, Moumita Biswas Misra, Umesh Rai, Purnima Chakraborty and Koushik Chowdhury have been assigned responsibilities across departments including irrigation, transport, finance, industry, tourism, education and fire services. The portfolio allocation formally completes the formation of the new government, with responsibilities distributed across key sectors ranging from finance and industry to education, health, agriculture and infrastructure.
