An investigation has confirmed that the deaths of five women after C-section deliveries at a government hospital in Kota, Rajasthan, were caused by fake oxytocin injections. The probe revealed that the administered injections contained water instead of the life-saving drug used to control bleeding after childbirth.
Due to the fake oxytocin, doctors could not stop excessive blood loss, resulting in fatalities. The state government has initiated action against the manufacturing company in Amritsar by cancelling its drug licence and filing a case. Following the incident, standard operating procedures are being developed for emergency drug procurement in government hospitals.
