A NEW LEARNING TOOLKIT FOR TEACHERS One of the biggest announcements is the launch of the Google AI Educator Series (GES), a mobile-first training programme specially designed for Indian teachers.
The initiative will initially be rolled out in partnership with the governments of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Assam, along with the Union Territory of Ladakh and the Punjab School Education Board. Google said the programme will help educators understand how AI can be used responsibly inside classrooms to improve teaching methods and student engagement. The training content will also be customised for Indian users and made accessible in six regional languages: Hindi, Assamese, Marathi, Telugu, Odia and Punjabi. The company plans to gradually expand the programme nationwide after the pilot phase. GEMINI, READALONG AND DIGITAL LEARNING Google has also announced a three-year partnership with UNICEF across India, Brazil, Pakistan and Kenya.
Through this collaboration, AI-powered tools such as Gemini and ReadAlong will be integrated into learning systems to improve literacy and numeracy among students. The initiative will focus on personalised learning experiences, reading fluency and digital classroom support. NotebookLM and other AI-based platforms may also be explored to create more interactive learning environments for students. According to Google, the partnership combines the company’s technology expertise with UNICEF’s experience in strengthening public education systems. THE BIGGER CHALLENGE: RESPONSIBLE AI While AI tools are becoming more common in schools, concerns around accessibility, teacher preparedness and responsible use continue to shape the debate around technology in education. Google said its initiative will focus not only on innovation but also on safe and ethical AI adoption.
UNICEF will work with governments and local education systems to implement the programme according to regional needs. The organisation is also expected to release annual impact reports to study how effectively the initiative improves learning outcomes.
